Dentures Overview
We often lose teeth due to aging, bad oral hygiene habits and periodontal disease. If you’ve lost teeth and feel self-conscious about it, you may want to consider getting dentures. Replacing your missing teeth with dentures can improve your appearance and your self-confidence, and it can make everyday tasks such as talking or eating much easier. Jasper Place Denture Clinic offers dentures in Edmonton to those who are interested in a full smile and a healthy jaw. All people have unique situations and different mouths and oral health, which is why there are a number of types of dentures available, including:
Partial Dentures – designed for patients with just a few missing teeth, consist of one or more artificial teeth and are held in place with a clasp or bridge. They can be removed for sleeping and cleaning.
Complete dentures – designed for patients who have lost all of their teeth and are held in place by suction or adhesive. They can be placed immediately after extraction or after a healing period.
Implant dentures – designed for patients who cannot get used to the feel of their complete dentures and are held in place by implants. They are removable and either attach or snap on to the implants.
At Jasper Place Denture Clinic, we offer all three types of dentures to match up with your personal situation and preference.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are what we think of as “false teeth.” They are also called full dentures, and they are used if all of your natural teeth have fallen out or been extracted. Complete dentures are removable and are held in place by suction or adhesive.
Complete dentures are stiff and take some time to get used. They can often cause soreness when they are first placed, but after a short time most people get used to the feeling. Complete dentures are a great way to have a full smile even after you’ve lost all of your teeth. They can improve your confidence, and they allow you to eat and speak easier. Jasper Place Denture Clinic offers complete dentures in Edmonton to help you regain confidence and improve your overall health.
Immediate Dentures – Jasper Place Denture Clinic offers immediate dentures in Edmonton for patients who are undergoing teeth extractions. Immediate dentures will be made before your teeth are removed. They are based on measurements taken of your jaws and are inserted immediately after your teeth are extracted. Immediate dentures are beneficial because you are not without teeth at any time during the healing period. Healing after extraction takes up to 6 months, and during this time your bones and gums can shrink. If this happens, your immediate dentures may need to be relined for a proper fit.
Conventional Dentures – We also offer conventional complete dentures in Edmonton. Conventional dentures are made and inserted after your teeth have been extracted and after the healing period is complete. Because conventional dentures are created after the healing process and any potential jawbone shrinking, you won’t have to get these dentures relined. With conventional dentures you won’t need as many adjustments for a proper fit as you would with immediate dentures. Generally, immediate dentures should be considered a temporary solution until conventional dentures can be made.
Partial Dentures
If missing teeth are a source of embarrassment or discomfort, it may be time to consider visiting a denturist. In Edmonton, Jasper Place Denture Clinic provides patients several denture options including complete and partial dentures. Which is right for you? There are several factors to consider, including the number and condition of remaining teeth in your mouth, and additional issues that are related to your oral health.
Partial Dentures – Partial dentures are right for those missing several teeth in a row. However, the surrounding teeth must be strong enough to offer support to the prosthetic. Partial dentures are made from an acrylic or metal frame that has clasps designed to fasten the device to nearby healthy teeth. Unlike a bridge, a partial denture is removable. In addition to restoring your smile, partial dentures can also improve the way you talk and eat.
Implant Dentures
Also known as “dentures over implants,” implant-supported dentures bring back the look, feel and function of your natural teeth. This type of denture uses a surgically-inserted root device to perfectly mimic the function of your tooth’s natural root — no loose or slipping dentures here! And, once your titanium root device is inserted, you have the option of choosing between several types of artificial teeth, such as acrylic or porcelain.
